 Card Was Declined

by Scott Boden

The lines were not too long while Robyn and I shopped Saturday, our first day of Christmas shopping. The traffic however was what I thought it would be.  Robyn would not let me drive because I guess I scared her when a woman in the fast lane was not passing the car in the right lane or was not she allowing the car on the right to pass her. She just kept pace.

Well after several miles of this and a long line of cars behind me, I got on this woman's bumper until she was uncomfortable. She hit her brakes thinking that would make me back off, but all that did was make me determined to get her off my lane.

So I got closer. Robyn's eyes were pretty wide, and now we were going 65 mph, but this woman gave up the contest and pulled over to the right hand lane. She held up just one finger as I passed her and her mouth was moving, but I could not make out what she had to say, hell I was going too fast to worry about what she had to talk about, as she already sucked up my shopping time. Robyn none the less, took my keys and said she would drive for the rest of the day. I didn't argue.

We started at a few stores like Linens and Things, and some home type stores and picked out some special gifts that stores like that only have, and then it was the Polaris Mall.

Malls. Malls are stores connected by other stores and crowded with people on the Saturday before Christmas and all of them are stupid people. I know, because I am there too.

Sales happen on these days, very good sales. Robyn found stuff for 5 cents on the dollar. That's 95 percent off. When Macy's and the like have just a few left of an item, they toss it to a table and make it almost free so they can put something else in that place. Sometimes, there are fine clothing in those sales.

We made a list for who we were gonna buy for, and began. Not

knowing for sure what we were going to buy for some, well we knew what type of thing, educational or kitchen etc, but not exactly what item until we could visualize.

For the most part, we got something nice for everyone on our list. I do like Christmas. I like to give.

The line at Macy's jewelry department had only me on one side. There were several clerks standing around and I wanted to buy Robyn some pearls. After what seemed  like hours, one of the standing clerks noticed I was there. So she nudged another clerk who then walked to yet another clerk who then had something to do first before she could wait on me. It must of been important to give up an expensive sale like that and I heard a voice say you got about ten seconds to be here!

That voice was mine. It just came out. I did not plan it. I blinked and there were two ladies standing in front of me wanting to get me anything I wanted. After complaining about my wait, I was going to get 40% off my purchase. "Ok", I said, I want to see those pearls then.

Robyn got a very nice pearl necklace.

Sunday we still had shopping to do and we set out for the Marion Mall. We kept making purchases. At last, we were done when the clerk at Elder Beerman said "sir your card was declined."  I said "Robyn, we are done! It's over. We completed our shopping quest". Our mission of pain is over. Home bound it was. Now it was time to wrap everything.

Our Christmas was wonderful.

Falling In Love

by Scott Boden

Love is grand. And there's more!

A good love is delicious because you can't get enough too soon. A smile to put you on high... A kiss to set your soul alright...Would it be alright if I spent tonight being loved by you?

Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age. I see you in every passing face. Let love be your greatest aim.

Love: Two minds without a single thought...................

When two people fall in love when they are young, they become oblivious to anyone and anything surrounding them.

Every word out of their mouths has something to do with the other. If one exhales, the other inhales that breath.

That bond that begins at that kind of "young" love can become the foundation of happiness or hell because as one matures and realizes the things that were missed, like education, job skills, wisdom, a vision of a career and what kind of values you will behold can be altered or deemed unnecessary if you are not taught as a child the importance of these "values"!

But, when you fall in love when you are mature, seasoned with your career's established, you know all the risks involved. You take your love NOT for granted, but embrace this profound sense of all the pieces falling into place and all the things you have wondered about are true or confirmed which allows you to actually stop and smell the roses.

Sometimes it takes many years of adulthood to find love and when you do, it zooms and

blooms faster than anything you have ever seen. Faster than the hot rod you built, or the roller coaster that made your lips touch your ears,  and when you are not together, time, stands still.

You find that the most important thing is the one you fell in love with and some things that you thought were important before are not on the scale of topics.

It takes two. It takes a commitment that you have to stand on. It takes smarts. It takes values and high standards. It takes Julio to make my sister and friend his bride. It takes Laurie to make Julio her husband.

Laurie, Julio, I wish you the success you both deserve, and the wisdom to smile, and to laugh at life, and years and years of brushing the glow off your faces. I want you to have the desire of excellence, and you give that to each other in of everything you do.  And most of all, I wish you Happiness.

Congratulations, my heart is with you both, especially for Julio. Man, good luck! Hang in there! Don't try to figure her out. We will help you! Thanks for taking her! She is all your's. Way to go!

Hahahaha!

No, really,

CONGRATULATIONS!

Merry Christmas

From Us to You

Christmas When I

was Three

by Amber Scalf

When I was three, I pretty much had life figured out. Santa came each year for Christmas and still does if you believe.

Uncle Scott took Nicky, Tanya and I to the country to see Santa and his Reindeer flying over the outskirts of Carey on Christmas Eve. He told us we could hear and see Santa in the country.

Nicky and Tanya said they seen Santa's Sleigh. I pretended. I know now, that is is impossible to see a sleigh at those altitudes. But that night there was bells. Santa's Sleigh Bells. This you can choose to disbelieve as most rational people such as I do. But the three of us intelligent females have come together to decide this.  It was Uncle Scott hiding bells within his pockets to deceive us.  Recently, we spoke of this event. To this day he continues to lie on behalf of Santa's Sleigh Bells.

Therefore I conclude this: Either Uncle Scott fibs (welcome gramma) on behalf of Santa as a jingle bell smuggler, or Santa can truly be seen in all his magic if you believe on Christmas Eve.

What Really Happened

by Scott Boden

Amber remembers this night very well for being only three years old at the time. Laurie and Amber stopped by our house on Christmas Eve and I decided we would take a ride to see Santa, if we could, flying in the night sky.

Well as you would know it, there he was, flying over the southwest corner of Wyandot county. The girls said they saw him too, and I stopped the car and rolled down the window so we could hear him. And yes, they did hear him.

I did not have any bells in my pockets like Amber suggests and as Santa was flying it was also suggested that the girls must go home to sleep so Santa could stop at our homes and deliver the presents.

The Magic of Christmas is very powerful to young children and I can attest to the fact the Santa is real and he does fly with reindeer over all our houses on Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas Amber, Nichole and Tanya, I hope you have many more memories to share.

My Dog

by Bob Boden

Scott This is to inform you that you are spreading lies. I recently purchased a dog so that I might enjoy his company and get involved with the competition. well on with my complaint. You stated in an earlier article that the ribs from NR (New Reigel)ribs should be fed to a dog as they are not fit for human consumption. Well, while the part about "There not fit for human consumption", is true the part about feeding it to your dog is WRONG!!!

My dog is DEAD! THANK YOU!

To Bob:  That was not my Story, Mom is spreading the lies about New Reigel Ribs. So folks, Do Not EAT Them and DO NOT GIVE THEM TO YOUR DOG EITHER!!!

May 2008 mark the beginning of a Tidal Wave of Love, Happiness and Bright Futures.

And to those who need someone special, may you find that true love.

Special Weekend Edition

Matt Home for the Holiday's

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
by Scott Boden
Carey, Ohio (BP)
One of our writers clashed with machinery today. Careful minded, steady on his decisions, wise for his age has in a blink of an eye, changed his life for a few months.
Matt Wentling, our Wednesday Story Writer, while on one of his job sites had a Roto Rooter feed spring wrap around his right hand. Damn near tore his middle finger off at the first joint. His finger was ripped and not cut and twisted completely around in a full circle. Broke that finger in three places which left skin holding it together.
His ring finger also had one brake. First taken to Wyandot Memorial and then taken to Riverside by EMS in Columbus for a hand surgeon to repair all the damage.
Although in major pain, Matt still had his sense of humor and at times completed this with a smile. Worried he may not be able to play Santa at his families Christmas was the first thing he was concerned about.
His surgeon was wonderful, also good humored, allowed us to watch her work. I think this woman likes tools as much as I do, because she took a 22 caliber sized drill and drilled a rod up his finger from the point right under his fingernail.
A live X-ray machine showed exactly where the rod was being, I guess, installed up his finger. Also she had to keep "installing" it three or four times to have it placed exactly where she wanted it to be. It was cool. I mean, cool as in how good doctors use tools and smarts to put people back together after an accident.
All this is just to keep the finger together and to give the bones a chance to mend. In six weeks however, the rod will be removed. That folks.................... is gonna suck.
I took a few pictures while she worked, as you can tell, and I ask her if she would make Matt put on a gown with his ass hanging out so I could take that picture too and she said she would be happy too, but she never did. This doctor with a sense of humor was also very kind, caring, and talked like real people do. She had no better than now attitude. Smart, pretty and a real person. If any of you put your hand in a meat grinder, you want her!
And, And, I'll bet her tools cost more than mine do!
I have included these pictures I have taken and if I get complaints, I will move them to a tag so they are on another page if any of you get ill at these images.
Well Matt, I am glad you will be o.k. You can Email Matt if you like by clicking below to wish him a speedy recovery.
GROWING UP
********************************************************
by Christina Prater
I so agree with you Sandy. I was discussing that with my dad the last time I was home. We discussed how the kids today can't sit quiet for a few minutes, that they have to have a game to play with, video game that is, or a tv to watch or a phone to their ear.
We thought that today if we would say go outside and play they wouldn't know what that meant without all the above. They are so busy with all computers, games, phones, tv. Can't even take a road trip with family without watching TV or playing games, where did the family life go?
Where is riding a bike, enjoying the trees, birds, bike races, going to a park to play without any electronics, they are completely lost. Gone are the days of imagination, creativity and friendships of just plain playing jump rope, picnics, water balloon fights, making hideouts for a day of fun and homemade sandwiches and brown bag lunches you make and pack yourself.
Lets not forget the meeting place  on the block where all the neighborhood kids met for a good game of baseball, kickball, hide and seek after dark. Why I know the adults of our past still do hide and seek games at Halloween just ask those who participated last year. That would be Poppy, Kelly, Dustin, Kenny, and some others who dressed in all black and hide on each other and they still enjoy that game. Now that generation is still enjoying the fun of at least hide and seek. Just maybe we still have a chance to show them how to play and have fun.
Shopping
It is that time of year when Robyn and I go shopping for Christmas gifts. Both of us dislike shopping, we always put it off until we have to react.
We are not hum bug about Christmas, and we enjoy gift giving. We just hate crowds, and stupid people. Stupid drivers and dumb ass cashiers. Stores, fast food. Red lights. Long lines. Walmart. Mejeirs. Kmart and Verizon stores. Malls. Traffic. Christmas music that started in October. 70% off gold jewelry, which is only marked up to be put on sale. Bratty kids. Clerks who don't know where something is, or if they carry that item. Stuff in the isle ways. That loud bell ringing Santa Suit wearing jerk or jerkess with the red bucket in front of all the stores. The greeter at Walmart. People who stand in the middle of the entryway and talk to other people they have not seen in two days that suck up my time by making me wait to get around their fat.......... Stuff made in China. Rude people. Smelly people. Perfume on ladies that is so strong it makes you cough or your eyes water. Women over thirty with dyed purple hair or with bright red streaks. Ear rings in noses. Tattoos on the back that show. Tattoos! Women who show their belly. Spandex. Fat people in spandex. Stretchy jeans. The Dollar Store. Kohl's in Marion. Marion, Columbus, Cleveland and Findlay and Toledo.
But other than these minor irritants, shopping would not be so bad, I guess. I know I would never be stupid enough to be shopping the day after Thanksgiving. I think that is for morons.
But I like to buy gifts for the ones I love. I know I can't buy for everyone I love, and there are some I know I will not buy for, for what ever reason. Usually those that make me feel like that deserve what I get them.
But Christmas is not the same anymore. The kids are all grown and gone, so the special glow in a child's eyes on Christmas Eve is no longer at our home. Maybe we will have a grandchild one day that we can spoil.
Giving gifts to a child is still the best. If you see something and it tells you to buy for a particular kid, you know you have made magic for someone.
And that is what it is all about. A smile. A hug. A child's excitement! The restlessness of the Eve, Santa is coming. Early wake up times. Oh how Christmas is grand.
Merry Christmas Everyone
Love you all
Scott & Robyn
